Attilio (Leo) Somma was the Facility Complex Manager at Brookhaven National Laboratory (recently retired), a major Research facility funded by the Department of Energy, located in Upton New York on a 5000-acre campus. He has over thirty-eight years of experience in day-to-day operations of facility systems, services, and power plants. Extensive years of managerial experience with emphasis on facility management principles and practices, engineering project management, facility planning, financial management and administration. Experienced managing and training of facility staffs numbering 155 professionals, technicians, and bargaining union personnel as well as project staffs of up to twenty members. Recently worked as a Project Manager for a 300-acre Property Owners Corporation managing a major electric utility upgrade. Holds a Master in Business Administration, Master of Science degree in Nuclear/Mechanical Engineering, and Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. A current IFMA Certified Facility Manager (CFM), Sustainability Facility Professional (SFP), and Facility Manager Professional (FMP) from IFMA. A licensed IFMA FMP and CFM instructor and has taught both programs at universities, IFMA chapters, as well as facilitating study groups for DOE facility personnel. Recently completed and earned the ProFM credential. Presently working as a private consultant in the FM Industry. In addition to his work as a Facility Management Professional, he has co-authored several Do-it-Yourself books and articles on building projects for the outdoor recreational industry.
