Employee Relations

About the Class

This program will focus on the necessary skills to effectively handle the complexities and legalities of Employee Relations. The program includes a range of concepts, practices, and procedures that affect the relationship between employers and employees as well as the relationship between employees themselves.

Course Materials

The course materials include both print and online resources. It is designed to increase the participant’s skills, knowledge, and competencies of human resource management.

  • Participant Reference Book, which contains slides from the presentations, forms appropriate to topics discussed in class, web addresses and suggested readings for reference
  • Online component with access to a Glossary and Resource Center that includes related links, additional resources, and HR updates

Course Schedule

AM classes 9:00 AM – 12:00 Noon
One 15-minute break will be provided at 10:30 AM

  • Define Employee Relations and the role of the HR Professional
  • Discuss the impact of policies, practices, and cultures and their effects on employee relations
  • Outline the various federal, state, and local laws and the regulations that impact the relationship between the employer and employee
  • Explain the importance of organizational culture on employee relations

Participants will have the opportunity to participate in a case-study.

PM classes 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM
One 15-minute break will be provided at 3:30 PM

  • Learn how to anticipate, address, and diffuse workplace issues that may interfere with employee performance
  • Define the scope and impact of employee discipline
  • Define the key laws that impact workplace discrimination and harassment
  • Apply dispute resolution processes and practices

Participants will have the opportunity to participate in a case-study.

Program Topics

  • Understand how to develop appropriate framework, mindset and practices that demonstrate the dealings between the organization and its’ employees.
  • Develop the ability to engage in appropriate and lawful union-management practices.
  • • Implement approaches to ensure that the appropriate workforce levels exist to deliver on organizational goals and objectives.
